So having hit almost 500 miles and summited one peak today was a well earnt rest day! I was thankful for it to coincide with an old camp friend who was in town and who I hadn’t seen for a few years! We spent the night eating, drinking beer, catching up and staying the night in the city in a hostel.
A sleep in… kind of. My body was already awake at 6.30 despite the 1am bedtime! I wish I could of slept longer but construction going on outside our building also kept me awake. Ready to start a relaxing day… We met we another camp friend, and started our day with a coffee and breakfast at a cat cafe, now I’m not really a fan of cats but was intrigued by there being a cat cafe. Anyway $10 later we’ve had 2 coffees, some food, and petted a couple of cats. Probably don’t need to go to another cat cafe again. The novelty of it ran out pretty quick and then you were just on a timer as to how much you were paying to stay there!
The afternoon was spent playing an intense game of crazy golf in the city, running a few errands in town, stocking up on snacks and then taking the train to Southport to stay at my friends house. I felt like I should have biked that 20 miles, but my ankle need a rest from biking today. Its bandaged up but still being a bother. Tomorrow is a long ride on the bike, about 80 miles to The Lake District. Ready to pass out tonight, and hope my body isn’t too stiff tomorrow from not doing much today.
Forever grateful to have camp friends all over the world, and to have a few of them back at ‘home’. I’m so lucky I get to see them whenever I’m travelling whether its for a couple of hours, a day, or a week. Camp will always be some of my best memories and I know that it doesn’t matter how long I go between talking or seeing any of my camp family, it will be like no time has passed when I see them.
Camp is a huge part of my life and a huge part of who I am today. Thats why this bike ride is (half) for them. To the Frank and Calla Foundation that helps send kids – who are otherwise not able to afford camp be able to go. It really is the best thing for most of these kids, to be somewhere they are not judged, its non-competitive and they are stripped of social media. Amongst other things of course, and I could write forever about camp but that might be in a later post.
Anyway, Thanks Abigail and Lisa for a great rest day!
and Thank You Abigail for putting me up for the night and cleaning my clothes 😉
