Day 2. Lanivet to Drewsteignton. 62 Miles.

Today my watch kept cutting out on me so I didnt get a very accurate reading of my ride. But heres a google map to show you the way I took, and a rough idea of the ride!

129 Miles down….

I Left Lanivet around 8.30am and heading to the Camel River Trail – a 15km flat stretch along the river. That was a nice ease into the hilly day! This trail was a converted cycle path from an old railway line! The track was pretty good, but way too bumpy in some places for my little road bike.

Trying to avoid the dreaded A30, I took short detours, one involving a very muddy trail which clearly hadn’t seen any sun and only rain for weeks, that was no fun on the bike, and the bike got covered in mud, as did all the way up my legs. That smell of mud lingered for quite a few hours!

I hit Devon around 2pm, now I knew I was really gonna hit some hills. I was told Devon was the worst part for hills… Correct! (well so far anyway) The hills were never ending and long, my legs were starting to feel like Jelly! I wasn’t excited about getting to Dartmoor Hills, but I was pleasantly surprised y the cycle path (27) from Lydford to Okehampton, it was an almost flat path throughout the moors, giving awesome views throughout the dreary but beautiful Moors! The weather was kind-ish to me today other than a constant North Wind at my side! But the skies were blue and the sun was out 🙂

Stopped by a little Castle in Lydford to stretch the legs and have a wander before the last 15 miles of riding of the day. I met my couchsurfing host in Sticklepath – thankfully she drove to pick me up and save me a couple of hills that I would have definately struggled on getting into Drewsteignton! A Wonderful homemade soup of mushroom and garlic was waiting at the house I stayed at, alongside the cutest Labrador dog and a very playful kitten!

Thank You Julia!!

A comfy bed for the night, a full stomach and some aching legs! Long stretch tomorrow towards Cheddar, but hopefully a less hilly one!
