621 Miles / 999km
Today was a late start, I knew I had an easier and shorter ride today and the weather was looking good this morning. Blue skies and it was feeling warm! I left Grasmere at 11am. The first 5-6 miles were hilly, climbing in and out of the Lake District, but the scenery was beautiful. I dont think I realised somewhere in England could be this green. I felt a strange sense of home here in the countryside. Maybe I’ve found a place I could live in England!

I got close to Keswick at noon, and stayed east of the town and headed to Castlerigg Stone Circle (a free – but less impressive version, of Stone Henge) Thought I might get lucky to see it with no people, but it was apparently more popular than I thought it would be.
From Keswick to Carlisle, it was a smooth ride up in the hills through farms and on a great cycle path away from main roads. It actually cut 8 miles off my journey if I had taken the main roads instead! The sun was shining until the last 5 miles where I got hit with a quick shower. I got to Carlisle in great timing at 3.30pm, so thankful for an easy ride. Biked alongside Carlisle Castle and headed to my AirBnB. The lady I’m staying with was actually working a night shift so I ended up having a whole house to myself. It was perfect. I treated myself to 1000’s of calories in Chinese take out food and a night in front of the TV watching Netflix.
Tomorrow is another shorter day but looks like some horrendous rain is in store. Heading to a couchsurfing place in Amisfield in Dumfries! I’m excited to finally hit SCOTLAND!
