Day 10. Rosebery to Strahan. 45 Miles

328 Miles / 528 Km

HEADING TO THE WEST COAST!

It was a late start out of Rosebery this morning! My body was exhausted and my legs just didn’t want to cycle… I mean really, they weren’t going anywhere fast. I stopped at the IGA in town to load up on some sugar hoping it would give me some boost this morning!

The first half of the ride today was a gentle uphill followed by a nice big hill right in the middle. It actually wasn’t too bad of a ride today, the weather was cool and cloudy and the wind was just behind me! The view were of course still amazing, and half way through the ride it felt like I was cycling through the rainforest!

I didn’t cover a huge amount of miles today and I made it to Strahan in good timing. i stopped just 10km North of Strahan to go to Henty Dunes – to go run up and down some sand dunes. Wow, that took any energy I had mustered up on the ride right down! But it was fun to be there – no one else was there. Took some fun photos and then headed into Strahan!

A pretty little caravan/holiday park village right on the water. There wasn’t much in the town other than some cool looking old buildings that had been turned into shops, the docks were cool, and there were a lot of river cruise places offering rides on the water. I was more than happy to chill for the rest of the afternoon at the backpacker place.

For the sunset I wanted to cycle to Macquarie Head, it was 14km from where I was staying so pretty doable… until 7km into it the road turns from tarmac into very loose and bumpy gravel. I biked for another 2km and gave up – it wasn’t worth ruining my bike for and all honesty I didn’t want to be tackling this ride in the dark after the sun had set! So pretty bummed that I had come almost 10km out of my way, but the tarmac ride was at least nice and relatively flat! I decided to head back to town and along the water and found a dock to sit on and watch the sunset. The sunset wasn’t amazing, but I do always enjoy watching the sun set. I wasn’t too bummed anymore about missing out on Macquarie Heads!

Tonight is an early night and a sleep in tomorrow. My ride tomorrow is short and easy, and then I have 2 hard days coming up!!
