Day 1. Land’s End to Lanivet. 67 Miles.

Today I hit 100km on the bike; with Land’s End yesterday it makes the total 108km/67 Miles!

Luck was on my side today and someone up there must have been watching over me. The sun was shining most of the way, and the wind was behind me pushing up the hills…. kind of. I hit some rain but with the wind behind me I didn’t care. The roads and trails were pretty good, a couple of trails were pretty muddy and sketchy on the bike and the 4 mile stretch of the A30 I had to do was horrendous (also my fastest speed was reached here as I felt like I was playing with death)

Stops today included: St Michaels Mount in penzance and Hells Mouth in Hayle…. Yes I made a detour to Hayle….. for obvious reasons… HayleY 🙂 It also meant biking the north cliffs of the Northern Coast of Cornwall which even though windy as hell was beautiful!

8 hours on the road and 6.50 hrs active on the bike. A good day with apparently 4300 calories burnt… lucky for me I had a great host offering me a room via couchsurfing…. who had freshly baked scones ready upon my arrival and a homemade quiche for supper. Safe to say I’ve put the majority of those calories back on and I’m all carb-ed up for tomorrow. The guy Im staying with is awesome too; He’s an engineers – of windmills amongst many other things, full of Interesting conversation – including crazy cycling stories from all around the world, offered great hospitality and a wonderful cook!

Thank you Giles!

I’d say the first day was a great success… I have covered myself in tiger balm in the hope I can walk and bike tomorrow….

8.30pm and Im ready for bed! Tomorrow is a 70 mile ride through the Dartmoor Hills National park to Drewsteignton!

Good Night
