It’s Sunday, and we left Perth this morning and headed south 275km to Margaret River. We sorted most of our snacks and gear last night at home, but weren’t quite ready to pack our bags yet so we loaded two laundry baskets of stuff into the car and bags full of other things and decided we would arrange it all and pack properly once at our accommodation for the night.

We got to Margaret River just after lunch and as we were too early to check in at Prevally we wandered around the town. We picked up some last minute food, ate yummy salted caramel doughnuts (from the Margaret river bakery), bought Trixie a present (new collar), bought Lionel a present – a cape to cape patch, and checked out places to eat (for tonight, for half way, and the end of the trail – something to keep us going)

Just after 2pm we head to Prevelly to check in at Surfpoint. We sorted our bags and got mostly everything packed and decided to go a nice “short” walk to the cape to cape trail to check it out. We are actually staying a little way away from the trail so wanted to see how we would detour off the trail. Well this little walk I had planned turned in to being a much bigger hike, with a lot more uphill than planned and we estimated we hiked around 7-8km (it took us over 1.5 hours) we did find the trail, but not the most direct route. Michelle was wearing her nicer Van shoes, and I was wearing flip flops so we weren’t prepared for this walk/hike. But on the plus side we got to see the Margaret River Mouth crossing – the water seemed pretty low and crossable which is good to know. We also figured out the best way to get to and from the track from the resort (could have just looked on the fridge in the camp kitchen here! Haha)

The hike was okay though, and made me excited for getting on more of the trail tomorrow! We got back just before sunset and the weather turned nasty – we could see the rain approaching over the ocean and it poured on us – thankfully we were just a couple of minutes run from the resort but we still got a soaking. After warming up, and relaxing a bit we headed to the Settlers Tavern for a yummy dinner before retreating back to the resort to shower and crash in our bed.

Tomorrow we begin the hike from Cape Naturaliste! We’ll be back here in Prevally in a few days.
