As I’m finalising my accommodation for the ride, I have packed my bike up and sent it on its way to Hobart, Tasmania via Melbourne!
I wont see it for a couple of weeks! Definitely feel like I’m travelling too light right now without it.
This bike has not been the easiest thing to travel with. It’s actually been a hassle every time I’ve had to transport it from one place to another. From a horrendous airport experience at Heathrow with Emirates to what is going to be a hassle in Tassie! I shipped my bike via Pack and Send – which so far have actually been an okay company to deal with- just a shame their external courier TNT are terrible! I have had my bike shipped to the Pack and send centre in Hobart without even thinking about the logistics my end. I arrive in Hobart on the 31st January and will start my bike ride on the 1st Feb… However I land in Hobart at 4pm… and the Service Centre where my bike will be closes at 5pm. There is also a good 30 min drive between both places. So I’ve already given up thinking I’ll have the bike on the Friday. Even more annoyingly the Pack and Send service centre is not open till 10am on the Saturday because apparently on weekends people need o sleep in and not open their stores early. So I wont be getting my bike till 10 am the earliest. I then have to put the bike together, get back to the hostel to leave the bike bag and some extra stuff and then finally hit the road with a 100km day planned that day. The first day will be hard work, but I think I’m ready for a good sweaty day on the bike!

One response to “Good Bye bike, see you in Tassie!”
Welcome to Tassie! 🙂 I guess you’re landing today in the 40 degree heat! Thankfully it’s going to cool off for your cycling.
Tassie is a fantastic place to cycle tour, just be careful of tourist camper vans this time of year and if you’re cycling close to dusk/dawn there can be skittish animals on the road! You’ll probably see a lot of roadkill on your journey. Enjoy the ride!
