Another day on the South West Coast! Today I had 3 hikes I wanted to do: Monkey Rock, Mount Lindesay and Castle Rock (Granite Skywalk).
Monkey Rock
Monkey Rock, in Williams Bay National Park was a 4km round trip hike, with a constant uphill to get to the top and the lookout. It took me forever to see the monkey in the rock, but I saw it eventually and that made it worth the hike up! It was a nice early morning hike and a good stretch of the legs for the later hikes!
Mount Lindesay
Mount Lindesay was North of Denmark by about 15km and the hike up to the summit was a good 10km round trip! The hike wasn’t very steep, and the trail was in pretty good condition and was mostly through beautiful jarrah woodlands! I didn’t see another single sole on the trail which was wonderful! The weather was a little crazy with the heat and the strong wind! Safe to say I didn’t stay too long at the top – enough time for a fun few photos though!
Castle Rock (Granite Rock)
A 4km round trip up to Castle Rock – where there is a platform accessed by a terrifying (in high winds) ladder!
The granite Skywalk is a free attraction… yes free! Anywhere else in the world you would be paying a stupid amount to get on to this! Here in the South West there seems to be a couple of free attractions like this… like the Gloucester Tree in Pemberton – another great free adventure! Admittedly you do have to pay a national park parking fee, but that covers you for a whole day in the park and at any hikes/attractions and thats just $15 for the day!
This was my final hike of the day, I was already pretty exhausted but i wanted to head home to Perth after this as I wanted to be back away from these fires! I hiked up and down in 1.5 hours, enjoyed a windy experience up on top of the rock! I think I lasted a couple of minutes up on the skywalk before the sketchy climb back down the ladder and through the rocks! The views were spectacular from the top, and you could get a glimpse of the Stirling Ranges which made my heart happy!
I got as much hiking in as I could in the 48 hours down South I was! The 4 hour drive home was long, and I was defiantly ready for my bed!
Thankful for the reset, and ready for the next 3 weeks with the kiddos before I adventure to the Melbourne and then Tasmania! 🙂
